A semi-finished liner is not fully sized for final piston fit out of the box. The liner is made slightly undersized/rough so a machine shop can machine it precisely to match your pistons and your block. This helps achieve a straight, round cylinder with the correct surface finish.

Not recommended. Installing without final machining can cause poor ring seal, low compression, scoring, excessive oil consumption, or early failure. For best results, a machine shop should confirm liner fit and perform the final hone/finish for proper ring seating.
